PRE-OWNED BICE BUYING ADVICE

Both novice and experienced cyclists often buy a new bike simply to avoid technical defects and unexpected costs right from the start. That is completely understandable, but it doesn't have to be that way. There is nothing wrong with buying pre-owned—there are true gems out there and the models are certainly not outdated... however, technical expertise is required to avoid pitfalls. While bike shops guide you when buying new, this support is usually missing when buying pre-owned. With this service, I offer professional guidance in your search for the right bicycle so you can enjoy a hassle-free purchase.

Overview

People are often hesitant about buying pre-owned bicycles. And rightly so—most second-hand bikes have hidden flaws and are rarely ready to ride. Nevertheless, buying pre-owned is often the smartest choice. However, to fully enjoy the bike, you must account for maintenance costs on top of the purchase price—something many people overlook. A pre-owned bike that has been properly serviced and tuned rides just as smoothly as a brand-new one. It costs significantly less, and a small scratch won't hurt as much as the first scratch on a brand-new bike... After all, if there is one downside to a pre-owned bike, it's accepting that it no longer looks 100% brand new—though the same applies to a new bike after just two months of riding.

Steps

The customer sets an overall budget in advance, which we aim to stick to.

  • Step 1:

Fill in your basic details so we can find a matching bike (size & model)

Choose your preferred advice type (suggest a pre-owned bike yourself OR receive tailored suggestions from Grijsveloke)

Set your total budget for the pre-owned bike (purchase + maintenance)

  • Step 2:

Grijsveloke quickly provides feedback and/or proposals for a pre-owned bike

Upon approval, the bike is purchased either by the customer or by Grijsveloke

  • Step 3:

Grijsveloke prepares the bike so it is fully road-ready, staying within the pre-agreed budget

The road-ready bike is picked up by the customer

The main reason to buy a pre-owned bike is price. A new road bike often costs €3,500 or more, and after a bit of use, it is no longer brand new and still requires regular maintenance. You can find cheaper new bikes, but that usually means compromising on quality. Due to massive bike sales in recent years, the pre-owned market is huge, making even modern, recent models readily available—there is something for everyone. And if you're not convinced yet, you're also contributing to a more sustainable world.
